REQUIREMENTS

MONDAY
Holiday

Though please remember your DPU is due by the end of the school day (2:30pm) on Tuesday.

WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY

ENGAGE IN YOUR CONTENT AREA

Your last couple days have arrived. Wednesday is a day to finish up your course-work and prepare for your DOL.

  • Steady progress from where you are, through as much of the Coursera course or Inquiry you’re currently working on, is critical.
  • Regardless of where you end up, you MUST complete and turn in a DOL for the content area you are working on to demonstrate what you learned and how you’ve grown, on Friday, June 2nd.

MONDAY

Holiday/No School.

WEDNESDAY

Naturally, once again we’re focused on our schedule. We have the following priorities…

  • Complete the final draft of your CCO
  • Complete the final draft of your S&S
  • Get organized for turn-in. We’ll discuss this as a class, but just to be clear, every group is required to do the following:
    1. RENAME your group folder “Dickerson FP – Per # – First Name, First Name, First Name”
    2. Share your group Google Folder with me
    3. Include the following items in your folder
      • Completed Organizing GQ document (all GQs, answers and links
      • Completed Team Status Report (columns 1, 2 & 3 only)
      • Deliverable 1 – Course Curriculum Outline
      • Deliverable 2 – Scope and Sequence

FRIDAY

Priorities include…

  • Finish up any last minute deliverables
  • Develop your presentation and rehearse/refine it with your group.
  • We will also be completing a reflection (link coming soon).

I *STRONGLY* urge you to spend some time refining your presentation over the weekend. This is your last chance to show yourself, your peers, your audience, and me, what you’re capable of. Finishing on a high note will set you up nicely for your final year at VHS.

We will be completing the post program survey at some point. More info coming on that…

OPTIONAL

These are the extra things you may choose to do throughout the week if you like.

The following are things you may choose to do for additional miles (MI) as well as capital (C) – not to mention to grow and learn and become better. Sometimes these optional items will relate directly to the work you’re doing, other times they will be random. Either way, they represent things the Guide feels are worth your time. As always, though, the required items above are the priority. Feel free to do these on your own time as well.

Nothing to see here folks…you’ve clearly shown that optional adventures are not of interest to you.

MONDAY, WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY

ENGAGE IN YOUR CONTENT AREA

Focus on making steady progress toward significant, measurable outcomes/results. Remember, the next 3 weeks will play a very large part in your grade for this semester. That can be great news, or that can be bad news. Please make the most of it. HOW? Good question.

  • You have 1 more DPUs due – Tues May 30. Do it well.
  • Steady progress from where you are, through as much of the Coursera course or Inquiry you’re currently working on, is critical.
  • Communicate with me via Basecamp regularly (weekly at the very least) to ask questions or communicate your progress.
  • Regardless of where you end up, you MUST complete and turn in a DOL for the content area you are working on to demonstrate what you learned and how you’ve grown, by Friday, June 2nd (the week before finals).

MONDAY

Good morning…In reviewing our schedule, it’s seems a few adjustments are needed. Here is what the focus of today will be…

  • Continue to research and provide answers to our Guiding Questions
  • Continue working on our organization document so the research/answers are well organized
  • Decide on the format of Deliverables 1 & 2

WEDNESDAY

Naturally, once again we’re focused on our schedule. We have the following priorities…

  • Complete our research
    • Finish any interviews, and organize all information gained from them
    • Answer all additional GQs
    • Complete our organization document

FRIDAY

Today is all about ‘doing the work’. Yep, collecting all of our findings, discussing them in our groups – and as a class – and making the decisions necessary to create our course curriculum outline and scope & sequence. By the end of today, the goals, at minimum, are to:

  • Create a 1st draft of our CCO and S&S
  • Discuss critically and suggest revisions

We will also be completing a reflection (link coming soon).

Please complete the Lesson 6 Reflection, and respond to at least 1 of our partner school’s student reflections. Please have this done before you walk in on Friday.

MONDAY

We have a few things to discuss, but you’ll spend most of your time completing the reflection found HERE. NOTE: if you are absent, please come make arrangements with me to complete this as I am turning the form off at 7pm on Tuesday (lat work not accepted – this is about process, and process requires that we engage throughout, not at the last minute)

WEDNESDAY

We will focus on identifying tasks as a group, and completing our Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). This will give us a very clear roadmap for what needs to get done in order to complete our project.

Next, we’ll schedule these tasks as well as assign them to our team members, so we know exactly when things are due, who is responsible for them and where we should be along the way. This is a VERY short project timeline, so good time management is critical.

If we have time, we’ll also begin developing our Guiding Questions.

FRIDAY

We’ll finish up our GQs and begin working on answering them. Based on how we scheduled our tasks on Wednesday, there may be other things we need to work on as well. One thing that MUST get done is the development of a student survey. We have some willing 8th graders who are anxious to tell us what they hope for in a 9th grade social studies class, so we need to develop the questionnaire to collect their feedback.

We, at some point, will need to complete the post-program survey. I’ll provide more details on when/how we’ll do that soon.

ENGAGE IN YOUR CONTENT AREA

Focus on making steady progress toward significant, measurable outcomes/results. Remember, the next 4 weeks will play a very large part in your grade for this semester. That can be great news, or that can be bad news. Please make the most of it. HOW? Good question.

  • You have 2 more DPUs due – Mon May 15 and Tues May 30. Do them well.

PREPARE FOR SUCCESS

You have been placed into your groups, and you can find who your team members are by checking the Message Board of your class period there (the message titled “Groupings”), or by clicking on the appropriate link below.  Please sit with your group from this point forward.

Please keep in mind. You’ve got just over 4 weeks of school left. You have opted into this group project, and group work requires you to be here. There is too much to do, and too little time left, for you to miss more than a single day between now and the end of the year. Please do what you have to do to get here every Monday/Wednesday/Friday from here on out.

You have a few other tasks required to be completed today. Please designate 1 person in your group (only 1…not all of you) to do the following. Note, brief “HOW TO” video tutorials are included below as well.

  1. Create a Google Drive folder, called “Final Project – Dickerson 2017”, and share it with each of your team members.
  2. Make a copy of THIS DOCUMENT – Organizing GQs – and put it in the above shared folder. Call the document “Organized GQs – First name, First name & First name”, where the names are those of all group members (see video for clarification)
  3. Make a copy of THIS DOCUMENT – Team Status Report – and put it in the above shared folder. Call the document “Team Status Report – First name, First name & First name”, where the names are those of all group members (see video for clarification)
  4. Create a Basecamp Team, and invite all team members to collaborate. Set up as desired…

Weekly Requirements

The agenda for the week is as follows…

  1. Complete the survey
  2. Work on your content area
  3. Check Basecamp and communicate with me there regularly

I’m sorry for not being here today. I was unaware of today’s meeting when we last met so I couldn’t tell you ahead of time. As always, life presents challenges to overcome, and the trick is not figuring out HOW to overcome them. Rather, it’s to decide that you’re going to try in the first place. My frequent absences these past 10 days or so is a challenge. True.

Try to overcome.

And yes, I have decided to eliminate your DPU requirement for today. It’s my way of atoning for bailing on you this past week and a half (though please remember, it hasn’t been my choice to do so).

I miss you all dearly.

Your required tasks are below…

SURVEY

Please take this short, but important survey.

ENGAGE IN YOUR CONTENT AREA

Focus on making steady progress toward significant, measurable outcomes/results.
