Human Rights Learning Objectives

Tuesday 1/16

Today’s Objective(s): SWBAT

  1. Identify and make meaning of the unit 4 objectives
  2. Begin thinking generally about Human Rights

Do Now – 10 minutes

On a lined piece of paper, please take 5 minutes and respond to the following questions:

  1. What is the United Nations?
  2. What are Human Rights?

We’ll discuss this as a class.

LESSON – 20 minutes

With your partner, you’ll be working with one of our unit objectives and putting it into your own words. I’ll be assigning you the objective you’re to be working with, but you’ll need to read it, define any words you’re unsure about, and then re-word the objective in a way that makes it simple and clear.

You will be presenting your new learning objective to the class.

The Human Rights Learning Objectives are:

  1. Identify the 30 HR and articulate why human rights are important to them as individuals
  2. Order and explain the historical evolution of HRs using primary sources
  3. Identify and explain historical and/or modern day examples of human rights violations
  4. Synthesize understanding about existing human rights, and about HR issues in our community to develop new, relevant ideas that connect to our community
